Greatwood Packers Brett Game 3

After watching Jared's team win their game we were hopeful that Brett's team would be able to follow suit. Unfortunately, that was not the case. In the opening drive against the Rattlers they scored a touchdown that was called back for holding. After that, they never could seem to get the ball back in the end zone. In the 4th quarter the Rattlers scored a touchdown making the score 7 to 0. The Packers were close at the end of the game but in the end could not get the ball in the end zone so they lost another disappointing game 7-0. At least this game they were competitive and they did much better than last week.

Greatwood Packers Jared Game 3

Saturday we had another round of Greatwood Packers football games. This Saturday we played the Missouri City Rattlers. As a side note, Brett was born in Missouri City almost 10 years ago. It is interesting that we are living back in the same area on a "temporary" assignment that has already lasted longer than our "permanent" assignment our first time in Houston. Jared is still on injured reserve so he was seated on the sidelines with his team like last week. Jared seems to be healing-up pretty fast though because we have to keep reminding him that he is injured and he needs to settle down. During Brett's game on Saturday he kept jumping off the bleacher seats and making his mother a nervous wreck. He did settle down after Ryan got too wild and gave him a bloody nose.

Here are the Greatwood Packers with a little defensive action. They did a great job holding the Rattlers to 0 points.

Here we have a little offense action. The Packers scored 35 points this game with a final score of 35 to 0. Way to go Packers! Jared was a little disappointed he was not able to participate in that win. Winning is not everything, but it sure beats losing.

Freeport Beach before school started

We made the effort for one last trip to the beach before the kids started school and every Saturday was dedicated to football games. I had the skin cancer cut off my leg and I was hoping for that would to heal before we went to the beach because a guy in our ward told me about some guy getting a flesh eating bacteria in a wound while fishing at the beach. That story kind of freaked me out because I did not want to get a flesh eating bacteria in my leg where the skin cancer was removed. That would have been a bad thing. I brought a bottle of hydrogen peroxide to wash the wound when I got out of the water and did not spend as much time in the water with the kids as I normally do. It was probably unwarranted worry as the whole "flesh eating bacteria" sounds a little like an urban legend, but it did make me a little nervous. The good news is that I did not get a flesh eating bacteria at the beach and my leg is better now other than the scar. We were also able to make one more trip to the beach before school got started. Going to the beach is one thing we will really miss when we move back to Illinois.

The kids talked Lori and I into helping them dig a big hole and burying them in the sand. I am not sure why the love it so much, but they do. Although, Ryan was not too sure about having his arms covered and being so restrained.

Apathy

I thought a Monday was a good time to post another demotivator. It sums-up the way I am feeling today.

Matagorda Beach

When Brett and Jared started feeling better after getting their tonsils out, we headed for the beach. We were also trying to schedule a trip before I had the skin cancer removed from my shin. We decided to try another beach rather than the usual because we heard they had better facilities like showers and restrooms. Freeport beach only has the portable toilets and they can be gross. So we drove a bit further south and went to Matagorda Beach. It turned out that they did have better facilities, but not anywhere near the beach where we could drive out. In fact, the facilities were not even that close to the beach. So, we went to the area where we could drive on the beach and it was pretty much the same as Freeport. We had a good time like at Freeport, we just had to drive longer to get there.

I am helping Ryan on the boogie board. One of the downsides of the beaches in our area is the waves are small, too small to surf or boogie board. The sea was pretty calm that day so we mostly just swam and floated around on the boogie boards.

San Jacinto Monument and Battleship Texas

For the two people that visit my blog, I will let you know that I have now finished posting pictures from our summer vacation. But, I am still not caught-up on my back-log of pictures. So, I have a couple more posts with pictures from other activities we did after we got home from vacation. One of the trips we made was to the San Jacinto Monument and the Battleship Texas by the Houston Ship Channel. San Jacinto is the location where Sam Houston's rag-tag forces defeated Santa Ana and his Mexican Army to give Texas it's independance from Mexico.
